CHRISTIAN COUNSELING
SJCU offers an onsite and affordable Christian Counseling program to students and individuals in the community through our Optimum Counseling Center .
It is specifically designed to meet the training needs of those who are involved in using counseling skills or who want to work as Christian Counselors. Classes focus on counseling techniques, theories, and knowledge. These skills are introduced and related to a framework of biblical, psychological and pastoral approaches. The course contents, exercises and assignments are designed to support and challenge students as they thoughtfully explore their own and others issues.
This program includes an opportunity to participate in an internship or practicum that is supervised by a licensed Christian Counselor. Optimum Counseling is designed to allow SJCU students an opportunity to put theoretical knowledge into practice. The Student can develop their counseling skills as they learn how to work both professionally & effectively, promoting health and wholeness from a Biblical perspective.
SJCU goal is to train up Biblical-based, compassionate counselors who can discern the needs of others and usher in the grace of God to meet those needs; by training people to counsel others using the techniques and skills which Jesus Christ used.
A student is not required to have an Associates degree to begin the Bachelor in Christian Counseling, but they are required to have 64 semester hours to enter this degree.
Students can pursue a Bachelors, Masters, & Doctorate in Christian Counseling. Christian Counseling Degree will be designed based on the student's interest which includes an internship.
